Because a lot of my mom's Christmas presents to others this year were handmade, her office/craft room became.....well......a bit like a trailer after a tornado hit. I do a lot of crating in this room as well, and constantly borrow her supplies and I felt like she needed more organization than she had. (Secretly, that is just a nice way of saying it was driving me crazy). So...here is what happened.....

| Fabric and Craft "Organization" |
My first attempt was to spend as little as money as possible. Not because I am cheap, but because I am cheap. :) No, in all reality, I think money can be spent in better places, although organization is important it is not worth hundreds of dollars.
Step 1: Take all fabric out and sort by color and material type
Step 2: Get a coffee
Step 3: Figure out what I was going to need.
So....I sprinkled my craft dust everywhere and the room magically turned into something astounding! Okay, just kidding.....4 hours later....
The things I want you to notice about this picture is first the amazing valances my mom made. (I told ya she was good). As you see, my mom now has a cutting area, her sewing machine, and a drawer underneath the back side of the desk with her fleece material stash and buttons (which are organized very well).
There is more to say about the picture above. The green totes were purchased from the Dollar Tree for yes, $1. The blue container was holding a few cleaning supplies that I figured could be placed on a shelf in the laundry room and the white shelf was a piece of furniture my sister-in-law no longer needed and wanted to get rid of. There are color labels on each of the green totes indicating what color fabric is being stored.
A bit more of a close up. Here you can also see there are place mats under the totes. This is due to the fact the the wire of the shelving made it very hard for anything to stay put. While I also organized all of the drawers in her desk with small totes at the Dollar Tree as well I forgot to take pictures. In all this project cost me a total of $18. This included the coffee. :)

Frugal organization is the best. Thats what I've just been working on in the toy room. Except in toy room organizing you also have to factor in the question; can the kids pull this over onto themselves?
ReplyDeleteVery good thought! Do you have pinterest?
